What Is Classical Christian Education?
Classical Christian education is a time-tested approach offered at Evangel Christian Academy, a classical Christian school in Colorado Springs, that emphasizes the development of critical thinking and articulate expression within the framework of a Christian worldview. Our curriculum is structured around the three-part Trivium:
Grammar Stage (K-5th Grade):
In these formative years, students acquire foundational knowledge through memorization, songs, and recitations. This stage focuses on the basics of reading, writing, mathematics, and the study of history, science, and classical languages.
Logic Stage (6th-8th Grade):
As students mature, they begin to question and analyze the information they have learned. The logic stage emphasizes reasoning and critical thinking, teaching students to construct and deconstruct arguments and engage in thoughtful dialogue.
Rhetoric Stage (9th-12th Grade):
In the final stage, students learn to express their thoughts persuasively and eloquently. This stage hones their ability to communicate effectively through writing and speaking and prepares them to walk with Christ for a lifetime.
What Is a Christian Worldview in Education?
Evangel is committed to a Christ-centered education, and we frame every subject through a Christian worldview.
Colossians 1:17 states that in Christ “all things hold together.” Our curriculum is built with the knowledge that all things hold together through Christ and through Christ alone. We view the Lord as the Creator of all things and the center of every subject, whether it is the created order around us in math and science or the beauty of creativity in art, music, and literature.
Evangel Christian Academy faculty members ascribe to our Statement of Faith, and they readily share their own individual walks with the Lord in the classroom. Gospel-centered community is fostered through chapel services, discipleship groups, Bible studies, and community service.
Students are encouraged to explore their beliefs, develop their own personal relationship with God, and apply biblical principles to their everyday lives. This integration of faith and learning prepares them to be thoughtful and winsome faith leaders and representatives of Christ in the world.
